Well, alright, I’ll be honest, they didn’t explicitly say they’d be releasing 12 smartphones this year, so the title of this post is a bit of an interpretation of what they said. Well, alright, in all honesty, it was Nokia officially saying anything, this info came from an unnamed source within Nokia, according to IntoMobile.
What this unnamed source (Incidentally, why are they always unnamed? Are they ones who must not be named? Does Voldemort work for Nokia is what I’m asking…) said is that Nokia will be releasing 40 phones in 2011, and 30% of ‘em will be smartphones, which makes 12. That’s really quite a lot, which begs the question: is there any way they couldn’t be copy/pasted phones?
Well, if I’m honest, I have my doubts. Consider the Nokia N8; it came out, and then they promptly went and announced the Nokia E7, which is basically the same phone, but with a QWERTY keyboard and a camera that’s not as good. And then, the C7, which is a bit different again, and the yet-to-be announced E6, which is, internally, the same phone, again.
If they’re making 12 smartphones this year, I can’t see them not being copy/pasted. Not to mention that most of them, because it’s doubtful they’ll release a WP7 phone before autumn, will be running on an OS that’s soon to be binned, namely Symbian.
Hmm, maybe it’s best if I don’t do any posts about Nokia for a while, every time I do, I end up getting narked off with them…
