Nokia has announced that three million apps a day are being downloaded from its Ovi Store.
The Finnish manufacturer says the growth has been aided by the global demand for Nokia phones and improvements to its new Symbian smartphone range.
It adds that over 400,000 new developers have joined Forum Nokia in the past 12 months and 1.5million software development kits have been downloaded.
The developments kits have helped developers bring apps to the life more efficiently – meaning that smartphones have an ever-growing number of games and services to keep customers happy such as Swype, NHL GameCentre and Angry Birds.
A raft of new phones such as the Nokia N8, Nokia C7, Nokia C6-01 and recently announced Nokia E7 are all fuelling interest in the Ovi Store. And Nokia is also using the revamped Ovi Store to breathe new life into older popular phones such as the Nokia 5230.
Tero Ojanpera, Executive Vice President of Services at Nokia, said: “Ovi Store is on a strong trajectory fueled by new apps and games from a growing number of partners and more than 250,000 new consumers signing up for Ovi every day.
“The number of daily downloads has increased from about 2 million to 3 million since September. We anticipate our progress will continue as we have just begun shipping our new Symbian smartphones.”
